Walang salitang kayang i-articulate nang buo ang mga naramdaman ko habang pinapanood ang latest work ng henyong si Makoto Shinkai na pinamagatang “言の葉の庭” (Kotonoha no Niwa) o Garden of Words. Iba talaga ang mastery niya sa pagguhit, lalo na sa scenery, architecture at still life. Matagal naman na akong bilib dito kay Shinkai-sama eh. Nung una ko pa lang na napanood yung Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place at 5 Centimeters per Second, manghang-mangha na ako sa quiet, solitary feel at quality ng kanyang mga iginuguhit. Kung mayroong musical works na masisira lang kapag lagyan mo pa ng lyrics, ang paglagay ng traditional tropes of storytelling naman ang sisira sa mga obra ni Shinkai. Kaya yun, the story is icing on the cake lang, kumbaga. At tulad ng totoong cake, namnamin na lang ninyo ang pelikulang ito. Huwag nyo nang pag-isipan pa.
